In 2015 Wacuka Kamau, the then Director of Tandaza Trust, organised the first Tandaza fundraising walk in Australia. Since then it has become an annual event. Each year Australian Friends of Tandaza holds the Annual Walk for Tandaza as one of its major fundraisers. It is always a fun afternoon and a great opportunity to raise funds for Tandaza Trust for their invaluable work amongst needy families in Nairobi, Kenya. Although we missed a couple of years due to covid we are back on this year.
Our Annual Walk for Tandaza 2020 was a walk with a difference!
This was our fifth Annual Walk for Tandaza but due to covid-19 restrictions we were uncertain if it could go ahead. For AFoT and the Tandaza Trust this would have been a great disappointment. The Annual Walk is a major fund raiser for Australian Friends of Tandaza each year. Not wanting to cancel we ultimately we decided that we would go ahead with the walk but restrict walking to committee members only. In doing this we reached out to our supporters, friends and family who would usually walk with us to support us by sponsoring the walk.
WE HAVE BEEN BOWLED OVER BY HOW WONDERFUL YOU ARE!
Your response was amazing and we are very happy to report that the walk for 2020 was a great success. THANK YOU for your continuing support of the work of the Trust in Nairobi.
We are looking forward to our Annual Walk next year and sincerely hope that we will be able to invite you to walk with us again then.
Our Fourth Annual Walk for Tandaza was held in 2019!
The Annual walk for Tandaza is a major fund raiser for Australian Friends of Tandaza each year. This it was a truely interntional event. Tandaza Trust held their fundraising walk, Bold for Change, on the 10th August. AFoT’s own Ken Kamau was in Nairobi at the time and dropped the flag for the start of the walk which was a great success. On the same day several members of AFoT were visiting Miltenberg, Germany where they walked in support of the Bold for Change walk.
Then on September 18th AFoT held their fourth Annual Walk for Tandaza at Tench reserve Penrith with an amazing turn out. Thank you to all who braved the weather and to those who donated to the Trust through the walk. See you again next year!
The Annual Walk for Tandaza 2018 was a great success!
Saturday 8th September was a cold and wet day but the weather did not dampen down the enthusiasm of our loyal supporters. After a welcome from the Chair walks set off along the river walk on foot, bike and pram enjoying good company and having great conversation whilst raising funds for Tandaza Trust. The afternoon ended with some sweet treats and a birthday celebration for the founding Director of the Tandaza Trust Wacuka Kamau
Thank you to all who braved the weather and to those who donated to the Trust through the walk. Seey you again next year!
Thank you to everyone who came to the Annual Walk for Tandaza 2017
On Saturday 12th August a group of supporters gathered at Tench Reserve for the 2017 Annual Walk. It was a bright and sunny afternoon and after a short welcome speech by the Chair of Australian Friends of Tandaza and the launch of our new fundraiser cookbook A Taste of Tandaza walkers took to the footpaths and walked the trail to the Penrith Weir and back!
Young and old enjoyed the afternoon alike, as did a number of four legged walkers. As well as the donations for the walk many cookbooks were sold along with Kenyan handicrafts. All funds raised on the day will go to the Tandaza Trust in Nairobi.
Our Annual Walk for Tandaza 2016 was a great success!
On Saturday 27 August over 50 people along with bikes, scooters, strollers and dogs took part in the walk. In beautiful late winter sunshine with a slight breeze everyone set off on the Bridge to Bridge walk along the Nepean River, Penrith. People went at their own pace and enjoyed each others company along the way. The walk finished back where it started at the Coffee Club Nepean River, which had very kindly hosted our registration table.
